SOS Children’s Villages in South Africa will hold its first ever Art Extravaganza for a Cause, on the weekend of 19-20 March 2022.
The purpose of the art event is to have esteemed local artists teaching art skills to children and youth from SOS Children’s Villages. During this weekend, the artists will hold workshops at four different village locations. The produced art pieces will then be auctioned, to raise funds which help in continuing to provide warm, loving homes to the children.
Art Extravaganza for a Cause gives the local artists the platform to give back, and support South Africa’s vulnerable children, also helping the children to find their inner creativity and use art as an outlet and therapeutic aid.
In the long term, the workshops will expose the children to art as a possible and viable career choice. These are the artists who will be generously giving their time and sharing their talent: Stephen Langa; Themba Shabalala; Thina Dube; Tivani Mabulele; Sibusiso Makhunga; Sakhile Mhlongo; Abigail Siwan Cansdale Van Der Leek; Kim Pereira; Timothy Zantsi; Chuma Nozewu; Kimathi Mafafo and Janet Ranson.
The workshops will take place at four SOS Children’s Villages locations in Mamelodi, Pietermaritzburg and Cape Town and Ennerdale. The children from these programmes will each create a piece of art, name them and hand their chosen piece over for auction.
By supporting the auction, which will go live on the 23 – 30 March 2022, the public will be making a difference to the lives of South Africa’s most vulnerable children, at a time of greatest need. SOS Children’s Villages in South Africa celebrates 40 years of supporting families and helping children at risk grow up in loving homes.
