St. Patrick’s Day goes beyond the typical symbols of four-leaf clovers and green-bearded leprechauns. This holiday celebrates the rich heritage and culture of the Irish people and commemorates the arrival of St. Patrick and Christianity in Ireland.
This popular Irish holiday is known for its signature pints of beer and whiskey. For those looking for a twist on tradition, consider trying The Buck – a whiskey cocktail made with ginger beer and citrus. Or, enjoy The Pogues Irish Whiskey neat in a lowball glass at room temperature. Many whiskey enthusiasts suggest adding a few drops of water to enhance the aromas and soften the finish.
The Pogues Irish Whiskey is far from an ordinary spirit. A collaboration between Irish punk band The Pogues and master whiskey distiller Frank McHardy, this premium whiskey embodies the poetic rebelliousness of the Irish. Handmade in copper stills and crafted in small batches, The Pogues Irish Whiskey is a blend of 50% Irish grain whiskey and 50% single malt Irish whiskey.
The band members were actively involved in the whiskey-making process, from selecting the grain and casks to determining the blend and maturation time. After precisely three years and one day, the blended golden liquid is left to mature in oak barrels.
The end result is a delicately balanced whiskey with a nose of roasted almonds, dark chocolate, spice, and malt, followed by hints of sweetness and citrus, spice, cracked pepper, and dark fruit on the palate. The Pogues Irish Whiskey was first launched in 2015 and later released in South Africa in 2016. This exceptional whiskey has been awarded the San Francisco World Spirits Competition Gold Winner in 2018, 2019, and 2021, as well as the Irish Whiskey Masters Gold Winner in 2021.
