An Elevated Experience at 140 Metres Above
Perched atop the Oakwood Premier Hotel, Strato Melbourne redefines luxury hospitality with its breathtaking views, sophisticated design, and immersive experiences. Located on the 40th floor, this statement Sky Bar, complemented by two additional bars and a fine dining restaurant, offers an unparalleled panorama of the Melbourne skyline and Port Phillip Bay.
A Design Brief Like No Other
Strato’s design brief was to create an “elevated experience.” At 140 metres above the ground, the design maximises the spectacular backdrop, enveloping visitors in an ethereal atmosphere. Upon arrival, guests are immersed in a 360-degree live digital display of the external environment, evoking a sense of flying. The Strato Bar itself offers a playful contrast between the opulent interior and the captivating exterior views.
The central back-lit bar, made from solid glass blocks, serves as the atmospheric main feature and a soft light source. Dark tones and sophisticated styling are paired with a meticulously designed lighting strategy to minimise glass reflections, removing visual boundaries and enhancing the sensation of floating amongst the clouds.
An Elemental Sensory Journey
Strato Melbourne provides a connected sensory experience that begins at the hotel’s ground level and extends to the 40th floor. The hotel’s entry is designed to ground visitors, featuring a Yarra River-inspired integrated driveway waterfall and a 3D vertical lobby sculpture. Upon reaching the lift, guests are greeted with aerial view projections that evoke a feeling of infinity.
The design of the lift corridor, with its deliberately low ceiling and partially obstructed views, entices guests towards the bar for a grand, unobstructed 360-degree vista. Luxurious, low-line tactile furniture invites relaxation, while the New York-style open-air terrace allows guests to fully immerse in the sky, offering a unique connection to Melbourne.
Uniqueness in Every Detail
Strato Melbourne’s unique location served as the ultimate inspiration, connecting the space to its surroundings through an ethereal, elemental oasis. The design ensures clear window lines for uninterrupted views, while darker interior spaces and strategic lighting prevent glazing reflections. Even the bathrooms provide exceptional, unobstructed vistas, showcasing meticulous design curation that prioritises the sky location.
Completed in 2022, Strato Melbourne spans 810 square metres within a 1520 square metre site. The project brought together the talents of CHT Architects, Sora Interiors, Hamilton Marino, A Line Joinery, and Brand Works, each contributing to this floating oasis in the sky.
